Origin: Native to southern China and northern Vietnam.
Ideal conditions: Prefers bright, indirect light. Thrives in peat based soil. Allow soil to become dry at least 1” down before watering. Avoid getting water on leaves, it can cause burns and mildew to form. Humidity is welcome. Feed with half strength fertilizer once a month.
Ease of care: moderate
Notes: The 'Iron Rex' is a rhizomatous begonia. It is known for its asymmetrical textured leaves covered in light red 'hairs'. It can grow 18" tall and produces cymes of greenish-white flowers in spring and summer on stems rising above the leaves. This plant Plant dies back and goes dormant during the winter.
